The Society is a member of the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS).

Aims and functions of the Society

  • To ensure high quality continuing education of its members
  • To provide a coherent voice for its members in the political, commercial and public arenas
  • To hold annual scientific meetings
  • To collect and disseminate medical knowledge on dermatology
  • To promote dermatological research
  • To arrange visits by expert dermatologists
  • To provide an authoritative body of opinion on matters concerning the skin

The Society is registered by the New Zealand Companies Office Incorporated Societies, Registration Number 1511951. It is also registered by the New Zealand Charities Commission, Registration Number CC41788.

Dermatology

The Society's definition (2004):

Dermatology involves but is not limited to study, research, and diagnosis of normal skin and disorders, diseases, cancers, cosmetic and ageing conditions of the skin, fat, hair, nails and oral and genital membranes, and the management of these by different investigations and therapies, including but not limited to dermatohistopathology, topical and systemic medications, dermatologic surgery and dermatologic cosmetic surgery, immunotherapy, phototherapy, laser therapy, radiotherapy and photodynamic therapy.
