Protozoan infections
Protozoan infections are very common in tropical regions throughout the world. These may cause skin and mucous membrane disease. Protozoan infections can be transmitted by arthropods, such as sandflies in leishmaniasis or bugs in trypanosomiasis. Animals may act as vectors.
- African trypanosomiasis
- American trypanosomiasis (Chagas disease)
- Amoebiasis and Balamuthia mandrillaris
- Babesiosis
- Leishmaniasis
- Pneumocystosis (now classified as fungus)
- Toxoplasmosis
